As with any first-time program, a number of lessons were
learned:
- To increase enrollment, it may be
necessary to promote the camp county-wide. Due to the
positive comments from students and parents the camp may
be self-promoting next year.
- Promotion of the camp needs to start
earlier. I suggest early March. We didn't advertise until
the end of April.
- Need to take more advantage of the
Internet for obtaining images for scientific applications
of image processing.
- Need to line up more guest speakers
that use image processing in their jobs.
- Perhaps a field trip could be
arranged to visit the National Institutes of
Health
- Camp could possibly be extended to
three weeks, to allow for more time for exploration after
the students have the basics of image processing and for
more guest speakers.
- With more time, students could also
create Web pages as an electronic portfolio of their camp
experience. I had planned to teach the students to make
the Web pages, but we just didn't have time.
- Planning and preparation for Camp IPX
and creating the Web pages took a lot more time than I
expected. Having the Discovering Image Processing
activities well ahead of time, would help solve this
problem.
