The Second 15 Hours...
After receiving the initial training during the
summer, teachers met for some additional training and follow-up.
Along with practicing their newly acquired skills, teachers worked on
developing lessons that directly relate to their curriculum and the
Standards of Learning. During this time, teachers prepared any images
they would need in order to teach the lesson the following
week.
Here are some examples:
- Third and fourth graders opened a digital map
of Virginia and set the scale. Next they used NIH Image tools to
measure distances
between various cites in Virginia.
- Fifth graders, studying microscopic organisms,
digitally put together a diagram of a microscope and labeled the
parts.
- Sixth graders used NIH Image software to
illustrate their knowledge of series and parallel circuits.
Students created a stack showing what it takes to make the
lightbulbs light up in each situation. After animating, they made
a montage of their stack. This enabled them to print and display a
paper copy of their work.
